July 13, 2020. The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, New York, topped out today as steel was fully erected for the new welcome center. Occupying the site of General George Washington’s New York cantonment where he initiated the Badge of Merit, the 7,000‐square‐foot, pre‐weathered Corten steel pavilion will provide a new entrance to the museum, expanded galleries, and a contemplation garden. Slated to open Veteran’s Day 2020, the project will honor the nearly two million recipients of the Purple Heart who exhibited extraordinary valor in the call of duty.
