Of the categories ranked by the survey, design is the most competitive, requiring firms to submit a portfolio of completed projects to be judged by a panel of esteemed architects drawn from the academy and practice. This year’s judges including Florian Idenburg, founding partner of the New York-based SO-IL, who previously worked eight years at the Pritzker Prize winning practice, SANAA; Sharon Johnston, AIA, founder and principal of the Los-Angeles based practice Johnston Marklee; and Dan Maginin, FAIA, principal of the Kansas City, Missouri based firm El Dorado.

About ikon.5 the jury said “ikon.5 architects rocketed to the top of the list of the best firms in the country thanks mostly to its strong design portfolio. Clear and elegant design solutions harnessing structure, material and light toward singular timeless work on relatively tight budgets”, said the jury.

“This distinction of being recognized by one’s peers is truly an honor,” said Joseph G. Tattoni, AIA, design principal of ikon.5 architects. “We are particularly proud to be the only New Jersey firm listed. “We thank our staff and our clients for their part in making this happen.”
