Located in the Collegetown section of Ithaca, New York, the Center for Business Education—the executive education center for the SC Johnson College of Business—is a P3 / Public Private Partnership project and the first academic building for Cornell University in this rapidly evolving neighborhood one block from the campus. The building acts like a glass vitrine, inviting the neighborhood to visually take part in the energy of business education center within. The seven-story, 90,000-square-foot building provides state-of-the-art classrooms, supported by breakout rooms, faculty and student offices, social spaces, and a four-story atrium commons designed to accommodate a wide variety of events and linked by a dramatic social stair. The top three floors provide enclosed offices for faculty and administrators, open office workstations, conference rooms and team rooms, and two broadcasting studios that transmit lectures and seminars to students in the Cornell Executive MBA Americas program. The building façade’s combination of clear and patterned glass and its rhythmic arrangement of angled and straight projecting mullion-fins is compatibly colored with the salmon-orange brick of its neighbors. The Executive Education Residences provide housing for visiting scholars and mid-career professionals that attend programs and seminars at the adjacent Center for Business Education. The four-story, 13,715-square-foot building contains 24 studio apartments designed to accommodate both short and extended-stay visitors and scholars.
