In a modest clearing in the woods overlooking the Potomac River, this house for an ecologist is a 21st century environmentally intelligent primitive hut. Designed for a warming climate, the cubic house is a 'Thermos'- a cube within an insulated cube. The internal two story cube, gives spatial excitement and visual splendor of the outdoors, while operating as a thermal heat mass in the winter and a large ventilation chamber in the summer. The outer container of the 'thermos' is a skin which is clad in indigenous materials and manufactured elements with metaphoric abstract imagery of flora and fauna of the region.
