The Vista del Sol Housing Communit Arizona State University is a residential campus for 1,700 upperclass and graduate students, with supporting commercial, social and recreational activities and parking for approximately 1,700 cars. The pedestrian campus is organized around two north-south routes: a greenway and commercial mall connecting across Apache Boulevard from the main ASU campus, and a long promenade providing secure access to all the residences. The architecture is responsive to climate and the intensity of the sun, with sun-shaded balconies and screening devices and a rich palette of deep colors so often associated with sun-cultures.
